Best EV Charging Stops from Houston to Orlando: A Better EV Road Trip Plan

By GreatStop Team · Oct 10, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026

Planning an electric vehicle road trip from Houston, Texas, to Orlando, Florida? This journey crosses the Gulf Coast, passes through several states and finishes with a drive into Central Florida.

For EV travelers, choosing where to charge can be just as important as choosing the route.

You might find a fast charger near the interstate, but does it have a restroom? Can you walk to a restaurant? Will stopping there add unnecessary driving time?

The goal isn't simply to find a charger. It's to find charging stops that make the entire Houston-to-Orlando trip easier.

GreatStop helps you compare charging locations based on vehicle compatibility, highway convenience, food, restrooms and nearby amenities.

Plan your Houston-to-Orlando EV trip with GreatStop.

A Typical Houston-to-Orlando EV Route

The journey generally begins on I-10 eastbound, passing through:

  • Beaumont, Texas
  • Lake Charles and Lafayette, Louisiana
  • Baton Rouge and the New Orleans area
  • Mississippi's Gulf Coast
  • Mobile, Alabama
  • Pensacola and Tallahassee, Florida
  • North Florida and Central Florida

Once you reach North Florida, your route toward Orlando may change depending on traffic, charging opportunities and your destination.

Some trips continue toward Jacksonville before heading south. Others turn toward Central Florida sooner, using different highway connections.

GreatStop's supported network includes the I-10 Gulf Coast corridor and multiple connections through Florida.

Instead of assuming everyone follows one route, the planner evaluates the starting point, destination, selected EV and battery level.

Three Charging Stops Worth Considering on the Houston-to-Orlando Drive

These examples come from GreatStop's October 2026 charging dataset.

They illustrate different charging experiences across the journey. They are not a complete charging itinerary, and they aren't necessarily the stops GreatStop will recommend for every vehicle.

All charger specifications, detour estimates and nearby-business information should be confirmed before travel. Walking times refer to measured walking routes where available; straight-line distances are identified separately. Operating hours were not confirmed for these locations in the current dataset, so travelers should verify hours before depending on any stop for nighttime charging or amenities.

1. bp pulse — Grand Bay, Alabama

9201 Grand Bay Wilmer Rd, Grand Bay, AL 36541

Near the Mississippi–Alabama border, Grand Bay offers an example of charging near the kinds of amenities many travelers need during a long-distance drive.

Charging information

  • Eight NACS-listed and four CCS-listed connectors, with advertised charging power up to 400 kW.
  • Approximately 3.9 minutes of measured highway detour in GreatStop's corridor data.
  • Restroom availability is indicated in the charging-location record.

Food and amenities

GreatStop's dataset identifies a cluster of travel-related businesses, including:

  • bp convenience store — approximately 53 meters away in straight-line distance, with a measured walking route of about one minute and 28 seconds
  • Dunkin' — approximately 77 meters away in straight-line distance, with a measured walking route of about one minute
  • Popeyes — approximately 80 meters away in straight-line distance, with a measured walking route of about one minute and 16 seconds
  • TA Travel Center — approximately 81 meters away in straight-line distance
  • Waffle House — approximately 110 meters away in straight-line distance

Restroom access is indicated at the bp convenience store, Dunkin', Popeyes, the TA Travel Center and Waffle House in the dataset. Operating hours for these businesses were not confirmed in the current dataset, so verify hours before planning a late-night visit.

Why consider this stop?

It illustrates how travelers may be able to combine charging, coffee, food and restroom access within one break.

What to consider: Connector eligibility, operating hours and charging status should be checked before arrival. The location's high advertised charging power is not a guarantee of the speed a particular EV will achieve.

Grand Bay is also featured in our I-10 guide, so this section focuses on its role within the complete Houston-to-Orlando journey rather than repeating the full interstate review.

2. Tesla Supercharger — Quincy, Florida

3314 Greensboro Hwy, Quincy, FL 32351

West of Tallahassee, Quincy offers a different kind of charging stop: a relatively straightforward break close to the I-10 corridor.

Charging information

  • Twelve Tesla-listed and twelve NACS-listed connectors, with advertised charging power up to 325 kW.
  • Approximately four minutes of measured highway detour in GreatStop's corridor data.
  • Restroom availability is not indicated at the charging location itself; nearby businesses indicate restroom access.

Food and amenities

GreatStop's dataset identifies several nearby businesses, including:

  • Burger King — approximately 40 meters away in straight-line distance, with a measured walking route of about 44 seconds
  • Johnson & Johnson Mart — approximately 46 meters away in straight-line distance, with a measured walking route of about 42 seconds
  • Shell — approximately 63 meters away in straight-line distance, with a measured walking route of about one minute
  • Marathon and Marathon Gas fuel-station options nearby

Restroom access is indicated at Burger King and the Marathon fuel stations in the dataset. Operating hours for these businesses were not confirmed in the current dataset, so verify hours before planning a late-night visit.

Why consider this stop?

Quincy illustrates a convenient quick-stop option where charging and a short food or convenience-store break may work together.

What to consider: Not every non-Tesla EV can use every Tesla Supercharger. Confirm site and vehicle eligibility with Tesla before relying on this location.

Quincy is also covered in our I-10 guide. Its importance here is as one possible stop before making the final route decisions into Central Florida.

3. Tesla Supercharger — Wildwood, Florida

299 FL-91, Wildwood, FL 34785

Where southbound travelers connect from I-75 onto Florida's Turnpike, Wildwood offers a charging option for the final leg toward Orlando.

Charging information

  • Eight Tesla-listed and eight NACS-listed connectors, with advertised charging power up to 250 kW.
  • Approximately 4.4 minutes of measured highway detour in GreatStop's corridor data.
  • Restroom availability is indicated in the charging-location record.

Food and amenities

GreatStop's dataset identifies several nearby businesses, including:

  • Wendy's — approximately 56 meters away in straight-line distance, with a measured walking route of about 35 seconds
  • KFC — approximately 71 meters away in straight-line distance, with a measured walking route of about one minute and 27 seconds
  • Dunkin' — approximately 71 meters away in straight-line distance, with a measured walking route of about one minute and 27 seconds
  • Shell — approximately 97 meters away in straight-line distance

Restroom access is indicated at Wendy's, KFC, Dunkin' and a nearby Shell station in the dataset. Operating hours for these businesses were not confirmed in the current dataset, so verify hours before planning a late-night visit.

Why consider this stop?

Wildwood sits where the final approach to Orlando takes shape. Travelers following I-75 south from the Lake City area commonly connect onto Florida's Turnpike here, and a well-timed stop at this stage can help cover the last stretch toward your destination.

What to consider: The dataset includes NACS connector information, but that does not automatically guarantee every non-Tesla vehicle can charge at this Tesla-operated location. Check Tesla's current vehicle and site eligibility before relying on it.

Operating hours were not confirmed in the current dataset, so check current hours before relying on a late-night stop.

Houston to Louisiana: Your Starting Battery Matters

A driver leaving Houston with 85% battery may make a different first charging decision from someone beginning at 50%.

The right stop also depends on vehicle efficiency, speed, weather and desired reserve.

Some travelers may benefit from charging earlier in southeast Texas. Others may be able to continue toward Lake Charles or Lafayette.

Rather than treating every charging station as an isolated choice, GreatStop considers how a stop fits the remaining journey.

A comfortable meal stop at the right point may help avoid an additional stop later.

Louisiana and the Gulf Coast: Think About the Entire Break

As you pass through Louisiana toward Mississippi and Alabama, charging becomes one part of a longer day's travel.

Food, restrooms, coffee and opportunities to stretch can be as important to your passengers as charging power is to your vehicle.

Look for locations where those needs can be addressed together.

But remember that a business appearing close to a charger on a map doesn't necessarily make it an easy walk.

GreatStop uses measured walking information where available and considers the convenience of the surrounding location.

For a broader overview of charging opportunities across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle, see our I-10 Houston-to-Florida EV charging guide.

The Most Important Decision: How Do You Reach Orlando?

This is where a Houston-to-Orlando guide becomes different from a general I-10 article.

I-10 continues east across the Florida Panhandle toward Jacksonville. But you don't necessarily need to drive all the way to Jacksonville to reach Orlando.

Depending on your destination and route, the planner may use connections involving I-75, Florida's Turnpike or other supported highways.

At Lake City, where I-10 meets I-75, many Orlando-bound travelers turn south rather than continuing east — and the charging stops that make sense from that point onward are different from the ones along the Panhandle.

These routes have different charging opportunities.

A charger that is convenient for someone traveling toward Jacksonville may not be well positioned for someone turning south earlier.

That's why GreatStop should evaluate the actual journey to Orlando rather than simply follow every mile of I-10.

Why North Florida charging choices matter

As you approach Tallahassee, Lake City and the major North Florida junctions, consider how much charge you'll need for the final stretch.

The best decision depends on:

  • Your vehicle's usable range
  • Your current battery percentage
  • The reserve you want to maintain
  • Which Central Florida route your navigation chooses
  • Charging options near your actual destination

A well-timed stop may make the remainder of the drive more comfortable, especially if your hotel or accommodation doesn't offer charging.

Universal, Epic Universe, Disney or Somewhere Else?

Not every Orlando trip ends in the same part of the city.

Some travelers are heading to:

  • Universal Orlando Resort
  • Epic Universe
  • Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
  • Disney Springs
  • Hotels, vacation rentals and campgrounds throughout Central Florida

A charger near northern Orlando may make sense for one destination but add an unnecessary detour for someone driving directly to a Disney-area resort.

When planning, enter your actual destination rather than simply choosing the center of Orlando.

And if you're counting on overnight charging at your accommodation, confirm availability and access directly with the property.

CCS, NACS and Tesla Supercharger Compatibility

A charging location isn't useful if your vehicle can't access it.

CCS and NACS are common North American fast-charging connector types, but compatibility depends on the specific vehicle, adapter and network.

Some Tesla Superchargers allow eligible non-Tesla EVs. Others are restricted.

A matching plug alone doesn't guarantee access.

Before setting out, confirm that the charging provider supports your vehicle at the particular site.

Likewise, advertised charging power is a station capability, not the power every EV will receive.

Why Food, Restrooms and Walking Distance Matter

A useful charging stop can eliminate the need for separate meal and restroom breaks.

But food or restrooms labeled "nearby" may be farther away on foot than they appear.

A charging station could be next to a shopping center yet require a longer walk because of access roads, parking lots or missing pedestrian connections.

GreatStop's aim is to account for the stop as a whole, including actual walking routes when verified information is available.

Not every charging location has complete amenity data. Travelers should verify current business hours, restroom access and charging status before depending on any stop.

Planning a Holiday Drive from Houston to Orlando

Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's can bring heavier travel volumes and changing traffic conditions along the Gulf Coast.

Long journeys are easier when your charging choices offer some flexibility.

Avoid relying exclusively on one location if alternative compatible chargers are available within your remaining range.

If traveling overnight, confirm both charging-site access and the hours of nearby food and restroom facilities.

Even when a charger is accessible late at night, nearby restaurants may be closed.
